About Me

I come from a large family in which music was central to our lives. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest we were exposed to a variety of music, from classical to show tunes to rock. I was singing harmony with my mom by age three and writing songs by the time I was eight. Each of us kids played one or two musical instruments. Two of my nephews have benefited from that legacy and are outstanding professional musicians.

Music has been my salvation in more ways than one. I'm a relative latecomer to Josh Groban's music (a couple of years ago), but I am hopelessly hooked. I appreciate talented musical artists, but Josh's magnificent voice is a phenomenon that reaches into another dimension. It affects me in ways that I cannot begin to explain. I've never had this reaction before and I think it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I am impatiently waiting to see/hear Josh live in concert.

I have been a writer, editor and lobbyist/advocate most of my professional career. I live in Northern Virginia but hope to get back to the Seattle area some day. I have an autistic adult son who is my pride and joy. It took a while, but I now recognize God's wisdom and grace in putting the two of us together.

I try to update this page frequently. The only problem is making the agonizing decisions about which photos and videos to drop to make room for new ones.

JOSH'S "GLEE-FUL" PERFORMANCE
September 16, 2009 (air date)

Josh appeared as a parody of himself in a very short but very funny cameo on the "Acafellas"episode of the Fox TV show Glee. Here, in the dressing room of the Acafellas, accompanied by his bodyguard Flex, he serves a restraining order to Sandy, who is a rather creepy, adoring male fan.

In a hilarious scene, Josh hits on the drunken mom of Will, the high school glee club teacher. "Throngs of screaming teenagers don't do it for Josh Groban, no. Josh Groban prefers a blowsy alcoholic."

CHESS IN CONCERT, ROYAL ALBERT HALL

This is a shortened version of the play that premiered in 1984. It has undergone several revisions since.

Endgame, "Never, never, never, never, neverrrrrrr!" An anguished Anatoly must decide whether or not to throw the chess game. In the balance are the fate of his wife and children and his lover's father, believed to be held in a Russian prison since the 1956 fall of Budapest to the Soviets.

You & I Reprise. Anatoly and his lover, Florence (Idina Menzel), say goodbye.

JOSH PERFORMS AT BEN FOLDS CONCERT

At the end of Ben Folds' concert on May 20, 2009, at the Hollywood Palladium, Josh performed "Still Fighting It" with Ben Folds at the end of Folds' concert at the Hollywood Palladium on May 20, 2009. Earlier in the concert, Josh helped judge a contest among a cappella choirs from USC, UCLA, and Stanford.

JOSH SINGS AT OBAMA
PRE-INAUGURAL CONCERT
January 18, 2009

Josh sang "My Country "Tis of Thee" (see video below) with Heather Headley and the Gay Men's Chorus during the We Are One concert at the Lincoln Memorial, one of the events in honor of the Inauguration of the newly elected US President Barack Obama. (I was there with nearly a hundred thousand other people but couldn't see a gosh darn thing. Fortunately, it was televised.)

JOSH AT FEEDING AMERICA RALLY
January 19, 2009

Josh, Herbie Hancock, and guitarist Tariqh Akoni provided the entertainment at a Feeding America rally held outside the Martin Luther King, Jr., Library in Washington, D.C. Josh played piano and sang "America." He sang "Imagine" to Hancock's rather intimidating jazz stylings on the piano, but he appeared more amused than fazed. (See video.)

BRIDGE SCHOOL BENEFIT CONCERT
October 26, 2008

("Disarm": Josh with Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins)

Neil Young and his wife, Pegi, helped to establish the Bridge School, which uses innovative methods to teach children with severe communications disabilities. I love this school and I love this benefit! In addition to singing "Disarm" with Smashing Pumpkins, Josh also sang "You Are Loved," "America," "February Song," and "Changing Colours," and performed a duet with Young on "Harvest Moon." A mini-Josh Groban concert! (Links to videos are in the left column, video clips in videos section.)
